March Favorites! – Dover, OH photographer

Okay, okay, okay. Here it is: My March FAVORITES! I know it is a little later than usual but better late than never, right?! Let’s get to it.

1. My biggest, bestest (I know, not a word, here comes some more), favorite-est guilty pleasure this month HAS to be Polyvore.com. Some of you may already know about this, but just let me go with this okay? I love it. I get a lot of brain-farts when it comes to fashion sometimes…I am a mom and all…and Polyvore is so fun for me. Basically, you go to the site, register and start making style sheets. You can search from anywhere on the internet and just drag your picks over to your space and WAH-LAH! Inspiration!

I try to find things that I already own (or close to it) and make style sheets for those days when I am left standing in my closet, complaining that I have nothing to wear. Now, all I have to do is log on to Polyvore and go back to my creations. Plus, you can look at other people’s style pages for help. Awesome inspiration!

2. The End.

It’s March, which means all the white stuff should be giving it a rest soon. I will admit though, I am thinking this year wasn’t as bad as others…or maybe it’s because we don’t live in the snow belt anymore?

3. #WINNING. A lot of people think Charlie Sheen is crazy, and I tend to agree but I really think there is a little bit of brilliance in there. Think about it. Now how crazy do you think I am?! Haha. No, he seriously needs help but the man is a marketing machine. It drives me crazy when people are all “stop exploiting him!”. That’s what he wants! So yes, I will continue to quote him on my Facebook page and DVR every primetime special he is on. It fascinates me much like Sportscenter fascinates my husband.

4. Pintrest.com – Another fun website introduced to me by a fellow photographer. Have you ever looked at something online and days, months or even years later needed to remember where exactly you saw it? Pintrest is perfect for that, as well as creating inspiration boards for fashion, home decorating, kids, and in my case, photography ideas.

5. Grey & Anything. I am soooo into grey right now. I wear it daily. It goes with anything. As you can see from my Polyvore board, I usually add it to outfits in the form of a wrap or scarf, and sometimes shoes. It also looks great in photographs, especially with the perfect pink skin of a newborn. Stay tuned for more of that later!

Well, that’s it for March. Hopefully you discovered something fun here. If not, my apologies – I’ll try harder next month!

Someday, this little boy is going to be quite the heartbreaker. Of course, it helps when your birthday is on Valentine’s Day. It isn’t hard to see how much Mr G is loved by his parents and big sister. Welcome to the world little man!

Every child needs a photo like this with their mother.

Hopefully I will get my March Favorite things out soon, but until then, enjoy this sweetness and don’t forget to visit the Facebook page and “like” me!

Calendar Updates – Northeast Ohio photographer

Hi all! I know it’s hard to think about warmer weather when it’s…well…doing whatever it is outside but because of the recently flood of appointment inquiries I wanted to update everyone on how the calendar is looking this Spring. I am still taking appointments during the week with flexible start times until June. June through August, weekday start times are limited.

April: the ONLY Saturday I have left in April is the 2nd. I will be traveling north on the 16th and do have time for one more appointment that day in the late morning, so if that sounds like something you would like, contact me.

May: May 7th is the only Saturday left that month.

June: the 4th and the 18th are still available. Weekday appointments will be accepted Monday-Thursday with limited openings. Please contact me for more info!

If you’re on the fence and don’t know when you want to make your appointment, I suggest at least tentatively scheduling something to ensure you have a spot! You can contact me HERE to do so. Make sure you spread the work by suggesting TLPD on Facebook to friends!

Session Style – Dover, Ohio photographer

I know I said I was going to do this post via video but to be honest it was just getting to be too complicated so good old writing it is!

One of the most frequent questions I get asked before client photo sessions is “What do I wear?!” Styling is such a huge part and can make or break a photo and I am always extremely happy when I get asked this.

To make this as easy as possible, I asked one of my favorite photographers, Angie Monson of Simplicity Photography if I could use her images as examples of exceptional styling and she gave me permission! Yay! Thank you so much Angie, I really appreciate your help.

Just remember this: Color. Texture. Accessories. Compliment.

Let’s get right to it. Families. When it comes to families, it is important that everyone remains complimentary, yet different. This does NOT mean that everyone should be matchy-matchy. Here are two examples that display this:

Notice how all of their color choices compliment each other – nothing looks too “clashy” but there are nice pops of color here and there with the greens, yellows and pinks. There is also lots of texture in layering and pattern choice.

This family stuck to the black, grey and white palette  but balance nicely because of texture and pattern choices. They aren’t too matchy-matchy at all despite their choice of sticking to the neutrals. Subtle accessories complete the look in the form of a headband and a brooch (my favorite, to break up the simplicity of her black top).

Individuals. This is where you can really have some fun. Mix it up! Lots of color, layering, texture and fun accessories add interest and make photos come to life. Always remember to make choices that compliment YOU. Don’t choose colors that are going to wash you out and stick to what you are comfortable in.

Specifically in the photo on the left, the addition of a bright scarf and fun hosiery make this photo pop. Her base is dark but her accessories make the outfit. The fur collar on the right compliments her hair, eye and skin tone in an extremely simple way.

This is a great example of what a simple pop of color can do for your outfit (and photo!)

Again, you don’t always have to be decked out head to toe in bright, bold colors. This is a great example of a neutral outfit accessorized perfectly to add interest.

Or GO FOR IT! How gorgeous does this look – lots of color, texture, accessories – you name it!

Adorable accessories, patterns, layering and color and BAM. Gorgeous photos.

I could go on for days about this but I really feel like these examples showed the important things to focus on when choosing your outfits for your session. You probably already have everything you need in your closet! It’s just about pairing the right things together to achieve the perfect look. Usually, there isn’t a need to spend tons of money on a new wardrobe, maybe just buy a few fun and inexpensive accessories.  As always, I am more than happy to assist with styling before your shoot, just give me a heads up! Remember: Color. Texture. Accessories. Compliment.

Again, a huge thanks to Angie for letting me use her images!

Until next time~

Miss L is 3 months old! – Dover, OH baby photographer

It’s really hard for me to believe that Miss L is 3 months old already! If you’ve been following along, you would remember her from her mom’s maternity photos, her hospital session and newborn session (sneak peeks on FB).

Figuring out what to do with a 3 month old in the middle of winter is a little tough, but I think we did good. I’m pretty sure she doesn’t really dig the big, black camera because she would smile when I would just talk to her but as soon as I hid behind the camera, she would  go blank or cry. Good thing her mom and dad were there to get the smiles out for me when I did disappear behind the camera! Sorry Miss L! It will get easier and much more fun when we can go outside and play!

Almost all of my favorites from this session were in black and white. I must be in a black and white kind of mood today! Enjoy the cuteness.
